"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever." - Psalms 107:1 NKJV
Each time someone does something nice for you, or gives you a gift, or allows you to go first, or helps you, then you know that the polite thing to do is to say, “Thank you”. The same should happen in our relationship with God. Giving thanks should be part of our everyday life when it comes to being a Christian because God has done so much for us. In this verse, the writer is directing us to say “Thank You” to the Lord. He isn’t just suggesting we do it to be nice, he is saying we should do it because our Father is good and because His mercy towards us is never ending. For all He has done He deserves to hear our thanks. Philippians 4:6 is another verse that commands us to give thanks. It says, “In everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Not only has God has done so much for us, He has also promised so much for us. Among other things, He is our Father, He is our Protector, He is our Healer, He is our Provider, He is our Redemption, He is everything we need and more and He wants us to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV) Know that you are always welcome to come before God in prayer, but remember, saying thank you doesn’t cost you anything. Giving thanks is a valuable part of our worship because He is a God who is worthy of all the honour and praise we can give Him. Declaration Starter: “I declare Lord God that You are good. I give You thanks for all You have done. Your faithful love endures forever…”

"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path." - Psalms 119:105 NKJV
Have you ever considered how much wisdom God’s Word has for us? The Bible isn’t just a book filled with words on paper, it is Father speaking to you and I. If you follow His Word, you read it daily, you meditate on it and store it up in your heart, then it will be an ongoing source of wisdom, teaching, direction and guidance for your life. Having said that, if you never read it, and you leave it sitting on the bookshelf, then it will only ever be a Book with words in it. The power isn’t in the name and it isn’t in the ink. The power is in the living words. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word is “alive and powerful”. God’s Word is supposed to be consumed, not left on the shelf. You can have a meal cooked by the best chef in the world, but if you stare at it, or think about it, you will never get the benefit or enjoyment from it. You need to eat it. The you will get all the nourishment and enjoyment that was intended to go with that meal. I love when I have a need and I’m praying and asking God for His divine direction, and then I open my Bible and read, only to find the very answer that I am looking for. Father is so faithful that way. His Word is alive, and it is Him speaking to you. If you want Him to lead you in every part of your life, then read His Word. Don’t do it once a week at church, read it daily. Consume it for the days that lie ahead. You will be so glad you did. Declaration Starter: “I declare that God’s Word is a reliable source of wisdom. His Word will lead me in decisions I make every day of my life…” "Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord." - Psalms 105:2-3 NLT
As we read through the Gospels, we see that Jesus performed an incredible number of miracles whilst He was on the earth. Most people today get excited if they pray for someone with a cold and they are healed, but Jesus performed miracle after miracle. If they were all recorded, the Apostle John says, “I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” That’s an abundance of miracles, but the exciting thing for us is that Father hasn’t stopped doing the miraculous. You and I are empowered with the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. Mark 16:15-18 specifies a number of things that will follow those who believe, and one of them is that “they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” If we look around us today, we still see evidence of Father’s work as believers are laying hands on people and praying for the miraculous. Marriages are being restored; the sick are being healed; addictions are being broken and lives are being changed. Let’s keep believing for the miraculous and continue telling of the mighty works of our God. As we do so, we will stir faith in others to believe for the miraculous and in addition, we will be exalting His mighty name. We can rejoice in Him and celebrate His faithfulness, for He is indeed worthy of all of our praise. Declaration Starter: “I declare that God has done many, many wonderful and amazing things. I will worship Him and tell of his wondrous works! I give glory to His holy name…” Regardless of the fact that Mark 11:25 says if we won’t forgive God can’t forgive us, the word ‘forgive’ still gets interesting looks and comments from people as though God never thought of their case when He told us to forgive. I’ve been listening to neuroscientist Dr Caroline Leaf this week and learned some very interesting things about forgiveness which blew my mind and when you understand this, my guess is that you will want to forgive people who have hurt you faster than you would drop a hot potato. Quantum Physics (QP) looks at this things we can’t explain rather than what we can measure, touch and feel. In QP there is no past present or future; no time, space or dimension. There is however, a law in QP called ‘Entanglement’ and refers to ‘Relationship.’ Entanglement simply means that everything in the universe effects everything else. God made us for relationship and even science is proving that. Scientists have also proven that even a photon coming into existence a billion light years away will affect us, even though we don’t notice it. Here’s where ‘Entanglement’ gets interesting and I hope I can explain it correctly. If you have been hurt by someone, the trauma associated with that affects your brain. The way to deal with that trauma is to forgive, but before you react, check this out. Through that trauma, the other person literally became linked to your brain, and even though they may be now on the other side of the world, their thoughts towards you still have an impact on your brain as though they were still in the room traumatising you. Remember, QP is not affected by time , space or dimension. The awesome part of this is is that by forgiving them, scientists have proven that you break that connection and then begin the process of healing. You may hate what was done to you and want the other person to suffer and pay for what they did, but you are keeping yourself connected to them through unforgiveness. If you want to be free, forgive them and cut that connection. Don’t worry, “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you” (2 Thessalonians 1:6) Jesus knew the impact of this because Mark 11:24-25 Verse 24 says, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. “"And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” We are to forgive every time we pray. When we do, God can forgive us, but it will also set free your mind so that God can to do amazing things in your life. Forgiveness isn’t a dirty word, it’s something God gave us as a blessing. Trust him in this and see what He will do. Adrian Nyhuis |
